After two false starts due to Victoria’s recent lockdowns, the Dandenong Stingrays have finally crowned their 2021 Best and Fairest winner via an online event.

Despite missing the back end of the season with a knee injury, a dominant start to the season was enough for Amber Clarke (Narre North Foxes) to run away with the award, polling 83 votes.  Clarke received the maximum 20 votes for her Round 7 performance against the Bendigo Pioneers where her 2 goals and 20 possessions were just enough to drag the team over the line to defeat the Pioneers by 1 point.

Mount Martha’s Flik Crank was runner up on the night with 65 votes while recent St Kilda FC draftee and Beleura junior Ash Richards finished 3rd with 50 votes.

Other award winners on the night were Mackenzie Eardley (Beleura JFC) who took out the Coaches Award for her consistent year, while young gun Mikayla Williamson (Pines JFC) took out the Rising Star award. Mount Martha’s Jaide Anthony was awarded the ‘Players Award’, voted on by her fellow players.

The night was also an opportunity to say farewell Co-Captain Abbey Jordan and Zoe Hill who will exit the program following their 19th year.  Both Abbey and Zoe will leave a lasting impact on the program, and we wish them all the best with their future footballing endeavours.

The countdown to 2022 is now on, GO RAYS!
